After all the recent magazine articles and adverts most of us now know the importance of eating five portions of fresh fruit and veg a day. Food experts reckon that it's the best way to get all the vitamins, minerals and fibre your body needs to get fit and fight disease.
But be warned! The fresh produce you're buying might not be as packed with goodness as you think. From the moment it's picked, vitamin content in fruit and veg starts to decrease rapidly. Often, produce stacked on the supermarket shelf has little nutritional value left in it. "Seasonal food is better quality, better tasting and better for you because it's in peak condition". So buy locally and you'll be supporting British farmers, and the food will be Eco-friendly too!
